As many of my friends and supporters know, I had to resign from the City Council as
Mayor Pro-tem towards the end of 2006 due to heart problems. I have now fully recovered, and have been given medical release
to do most anything I want to do. I received unanimous support from the Council on my performance as mayor pro-tem in
the summer of 2006 after the mayor questioned my honesty and integrity in news outlets. The Council unanimously disagreed.
Carrollton’s Current Stand on Illegal Immigration: Mayor Miller met with and pledged an alliance with Carlos Quintanilla
in an interview with Channel 5 on January 18 2007. She stated that illegal immigration was a federal level issue, and basically not our problem
to solve. This is easily interpreted to mean let someone else handle it. I have been accused of referring
to the Mayor as providing “passive leadership”. Of that I plead guilty. I will use a part of the illegal immigrant
issue as an example: the Council, against Mayor Miller’s objections, approved the *287G
program, which would allow Carrollton Police to be trained by Homeland Security to correctly identify and process
illegal aliens. I believe that approval was for up to three officers. How many has the mayor sent? I have been able to identify
not one.
Representation for the City of Carrollton within other Cities: I doubt it, but I guess I could participate in a controversial parade if it was for an issue
I had strong personal feelings about. However, I would never plaster “Carrollton Mayor” on
the side of my vehicle. And I definitely would not try to justify it by declaring that “I am definitely
not a conservative Republican”. See www.TheCarrolltonProject.com until it is removed. I have a screen print.
Current Mayoral Expenses: Mayor Miller's travel expenses have been hugely out of line for the
minuscule benefits received. Try comparing them to all of our mayors in Carrollton history. The Council came within one vote
of removing the City from TEX-21, a lobbying group, because we received no benefits from the multiple thousands of dollars that we pay to them
each year plus travel expenses. I guess to prove everyone wrong; she and Council member Weidinger went to one of TEX-21’s January events
in Corpus Christi
and reported back on problems with ship sizes in the Panama Canal and how tonnage is determined. The Mayor spoke of her tour of the port there. No
accomplishment was reported. Would someone please tell me how the City benefited from this junket?
Mayor Becky Miller has attacked my integrity, my honesty and my
trustworthiness both on television and in news print.
I am a proud Viet Nam vet, earned an MBA from the University of Dallas, and retired as a VP with MBNA America in 2005.
I am active in my church, having been Treasurer, and currently on two boards. I was elected two times to
the Carrollton City Council (Mayor Pro-tem twice), have been temporary VP of the Carrollton Citizens Police Academy, and a member of the Carrollton Citizens Patrol. I could list much more, but I am paying for this myself and would
like to keep it as short as possible.
I do not take campaign
donations, and therefore do not owe anyone anything special, except a level playing field. I expect to run on my record and
to finance my own campaign. I will probably be outspent 4 or 5 to 1 by someone whose record, if so great, should be able to
stand on its own.
The question is not “why would I want to run
for mayor?”
The real question is:
WHY
WOULD I NOT?
Friends, supporters, and people like me who love Carrollton and want to keep making it better, join me in the May
elections, and let’s start moving in a positive productive direction.
